The University of South Carolina’s School of Medicine Columbia has been serving the community for nearly 50 years. With the University's growing needs, USC identified the necessity to develop modern health sciences facilities closer to its main campus and clinical partners in Columbia. This move aims to recruit top-tier biomedical students and attract world-class faculty and researchers.
USC has selected the experienced Gilbane team to lead the planning, design, development, construction, and operations of the new School of Medicine Columbia. This vertically integrated team is tasked with creating a master plan that embraces the adjacent Page Ellington Park while delivering a first phase that integrates the complementary uses of medical education and interdisciplinary research, designed to enhance collaboration, incorporate robust technology, and provide interprofessional opportunities to expand USC’s health sciences programs.
“Gilbane understands the meaningful impact this project will have within the local community and throughout the state. Embracing a spirit of partnership and collaboration, we look forward to helping realize the vision for the health sciences campus within the Bull-Street District, achieving exceptional outcomes for USC and the greater Columbia community.”
The Health Sciences Campus will seamlessly integrate with the broader BullStreet District area, contributing to its vibrant, mixed-use community. This strategic placement enhances USC's presence and aligns with the district's vision for growth and development. Additionally, a shuttle system will connect the Health Sciences Campus to the main campus, ensuring convenient and efficient transportation for students, faculty, and staff.
